Entries for the 14th edition of the Stihl Non Stop Dusi are “pouring in” according to Ray de Vries, spokesman for then organisers.

 

“The dams are full and there is lots of water in the river system which seems to be attracting lots of entrants. If the entries keep coming in as fast as this we might have to limit entries to 200 paddlers.

 

With increased prize money the event is attracting a lot of attention from the big guns. The crew who finished second last year and have come off a 3rd place podium finish at the Dusi Canoe Marathon, Thomas Ngidi and Eric Zondi, are in terrific shape and could become the first black crew to win the Stihl Non Stop.

 

“I rate them highly. They are young and were the best running crew in the recent Hansa Powerade Dusi” said Jason Graeme who won the event with Andy Birkett.

 

“It is usual that the top combinations hold back until the last minute, but R30 000 for first place will definitely attract attention. I think expect last minute entries from a few boats” he said.

 

The Stihl Non Stop Dusi takes place on Friday February 12 and follows the traditional Dusi course from Camps Drift in PMB to Blue Lagoon in Durban.

 

The only rules are that there are no rules! Paddlers are required to go through two checkpoints between the Capital and coast, but are totally reliant on their support teams for food, hydration and repairs.
